LEISURE: Easter posies created by creative ladies
LADIES celebrated Easter by making much-loved seasonal posies bursting with beautiful blooms during a workshop held near Chard.
The sold-out workshop held at Combe St Nicholas village hall saw their tutor give a step-by-step demonstration first.
Advice was given on how to treat and handle flowers in order to ensure they remained fresh and vibrant, along with lots of tips from the trade on how to successfully master a hand-tying technique.
Beautifully created designs were made using an abundance of gorgeous flowers including daffodils flown in from The Isles of Scilly, tulips, iris and hyacinths. Wrapped in grapevine, the finishing touches included exquisite ribbon bows and even small Easter eggs.
Nicki Cousins, from Combe St Nicholas, said: “I was really pleased with my posy. It was harder to make than it looked, but I am confident I could repeat it now.”
“This was my first workshop. I learnt a lot and really enjoyed myself - 10 out of 10 from me!” added Sue Dexter from Chard.
And Louise Boffey, from Chaffcombe, added: “I found this quite challenging but after a little help from Jackie, the end result was absolutely lovely.”
Award-winning Somerset tutor Jackie Nicholls, from Ashville Design, who runs the workshops, said: “Easter is a time to celebrate new beginnings and nothing says ‘new’ more than Spring flowers.
“Amongst a lot of fun and laughter, this workshop was a bit more of a challenge, but everyone who came along produced a stunning posy to take home and should be very proud of themselves.”
