LEISURE: Earth Hour is hailed a success in Chard

A WHOLE host of events and activities took place in Chard on Saturday (March 24, 2018) to celebrate the worldwide Earth Hour environmental awareness campaign.

The Guildhall auditorium was the focal point of attention with a stack of entertainment and things to do for children and the rest of the family during the day, while upstairs there were various musical acts.

Talks about how we can help our environment with simple things such as sustainable food choices, sustainable transport and home energy use were also given.

And in the evening there was live music in the Guildhall with a host of acts and bands including 3 Daft Monkeys, Seize the Day, Animal Krackers, Sharon Lazibyrd and Hannah Cumming.

Organiser Tim Eggins was delighted that the event was another success following on from last year’s “first” for Chard.

“It was another great community event and thank you to everyone who was involved or attended,” said Tim.

“It was fantastic to meet people who had travelled from all over the region to visit us and it was great to get some terrific feedback.”

People around the country were invited to switch off all lights at 8.30pm to save energy and to help mark Earth Hour.
