SCHOOL NEWS: Holyrood performs well at Millfield Maths Challenge

EXCELLENT mathematician students from Holyrood Academy in Chard took part in a competition earlier this month where they battled it out with some of the county’s finest young mathematical minds.

Eight Year 11 students travelled to Millfield School in Street on Wednesday, March 14, 2018, for the Maths Challenge where they competed in five rounds of mathematical tests.

There were 13 teams taking place with Holyrood being represented by two teams which came seventh and eighth respectively.

The rounds were themed as Group, Fizz-Buzz, Head-to-Head, Relay and Speed. The students tackled many challenging questions on topics including square and cube numbers, Pythagoras theorem in 3D and the nth term of a sequence.

Maths teacher at Holyrood, Dave Macdonald, said: “The energy, enthusiasm and confidence that the 8 students showed was a credit to the Academy.

“Both teams displayed excellent team work and had a thoroughly enjoyable time! Congratulations to all that took part.”
