SCHOOL NEWS: Holyrood students receive Oxford University offers

TWO high achieving students at Holyrood Academy in Chard have received offers to study at Oxford University from September 2018.

Headboy Ellis Caird has been invited to read mathematics at The Queen's College, while Jamie Lawler has received an offer to study law at St Catherine’s College.

Ellis said: “Being able to study mathematics at any university, let alone Oxford, is such an incredible opportunity.

“The support from my teachers - thank you Mr Hodgson! - and all the hard work I put in was definitely worth it as I can now study a subject I am passionate about in a city I love!”
Jamie added: “Pursing a career in law has been an ambition of mine for a long time, and I’m so excited to have the chance to do this at one of the best universities in the UK.

“Thank you to the teachers at Holyrood who have supported me throughout my education so far and helped me to achieve as highly as I can.”

Dave MacCormick, director of Holyrood’s Sixth Form, said: “Ellis and Jamie have received offers from Oxford at a time where it is more and more difficult to do so.

“They have been through a very intense process involving entrance exams and interviews and have come out with the offers they deserve.

“Their success is down to their hard work and dedication to their studies but also to the support and dedication of their teachers and tutors. We are really proud of them and wish them the best of luck in their summer exams.”
