RUNNING: Chard runners Slay the Dragon
MEMBERS of the Chard Road Runners headed off to nearby Hinton St George on Sunday (February 25, 2018) for the annual Slay the Dragon 10k trail race.
The Chard-based club had nine runners taking part with Richard Clifton, having pre-run the course, telling them that the going was “firm to good” with only a small amount of ice on the road.
Wayne Loveridge set off from the front from the start line and kept up a good pace amongst the front runners, while Matt Baker was also up for the challenge pushing himself hard as his running goes from strength to strength.
James Musselwhite was all out to keep up with Matt over the early stages and pushed the pain barriers as the hills took their toll.
Helen Baxter was the first female CRR showing in the early stages and was really confused seeing Richard Clifton behind her as she rounded the halfway marker, Richard running with his wife Caroline Day, Claire Gibbs was finding the hard ground to her liking and made good early pace keeping ahead of Vicky Whitworth, Miranda Coleberd, Lizzie Smith and Nicola Smith.
Wayne Loveridge was first for CRR's to cross the line in a fantastic second place in a time of 00h 38m 03s in the 200-strong field. Winner was Tom Tick, of Wells City Harriers, who crossed the finishing line 27 seconds ahead of Wayne.
Next over the line was Matt Baker in 00h 52m 24s in 43rd spot, while James Musselwhite having kept Matt in sight crossed the line two minutes later in 50th.
First for the ladies was Helen Baxter in 1h 09m 40s in 146th closely followed by Richard Clifton 1h 11m 39s. First female finisher overall was Lisa Hallett in 48m 56s.
