CHARD NEWS: Chewing gum to be blasted from town centre streets
GUM-BUSTERS could be seen on the streets of Chard later this year in a bid to clean-up chewing gum which is annoyingly thrown onto pavements.
Chard Town Council has been looking into what machinery is available which can be used in removing chewing gum from streets.
People will be quick to appreciate the messy and sticky problem left on shoes when they walk on discarded chewing gum.
The council’s outdoor services manager, Steve Saunders, has said in a report that a number of hire companies have been identified which could offer the necessary equipment.
“One company can provide equipment worn as a back pack with a lightweight lance which can be delivered to hirers,” he said.
Further planning will take place although it is hoped that the work will happen during the forthcoming Spring months.
The matter will be discussed on Monday (February 5, 2018) by members of Chard Town Council’s Guildhall and amenities committee.
