NETBALL: Winning start for Holyrood Academy’s Year Eight A-team

THE Holyrood Academy Year Eight netball A-team got off to a winning start in their opening league match of the new season.

The Chard girls travelled to Preston School in Yeovil on Wednesday, January 24, 2018, and returned home with an excellent 16-12 victory.

Captain Kirsten Dallimore and fellow shooter Frankie Woodland started off brilliantly and scored a few quick goals.

The teams were evenly matched though and Preston's shooters were also able to make the most of their opportunities.

Some excellent defending from Heidi Warren, Emily Caddy and Maia Watson prevented Preston from going ahead which meant the scores were level at 8-8 at the end of the second quarter.

The third quarter ended with the scores level once more which meant it was all to play. After a quick team talk the Holyrood girls were raring to go - they attacked relentlessly and were able to keep possession.

Shooters, Dallimore and Woodland, were able to produce the goods with six goals being scored in the last quarter to see the Year 8s win their first league game 16-12.

Holyrood sports coach, Miss Sims, said: “Training sessions have been really popular - making it really difficult to pick teams and there’s plenty to work on.”
