MEMBERS of Chard Amateur Theatre Society are once again providing plenty of laughs at the Guildhall with the group’s annual offering of pantomime fun, mayhem and corny jokes.

The society, better known as CATS, is performing Puss in Boots and the opening night on Thursday (January 25, 2018) was watched by an audience including the Mayor of Chard, Cllr Garry Shortland, and various other civic dignitaries and invited guests from around the area.

And they certainly lapped up the panto atmosphere and even added to it with plenty of audience participation.

The production is being performed again on Friday (January 26, 2018) and Saturday (January 27, 2018) evenings at 7.30pm and if you want to have a good giggle – get yourself down to the Guildhall.

The whole cast works as a team to produce a fun-packed production and the occasional unscheduled mishap or forgotten line all adds to the show’s success because they have that all-important essential characteristic of panto – they can laugh at themselves and not take things too seriously.

Special note goes to Steve Warwick as panto dame Queen Wendy who really put everything into the role and to comic henchmen Jasper and Jethro, played by Hayley and Gary Glazier, who were great fun.

We also cannot forget to mention Mike Eldridge as King Wally the Once who did not say a lot, but his most widely used phrase of “Yes, Dear” had the audience’s complete sympathy.

And congratulations to the younger cast members who showed so much enthusiasm and looked to be enjoying their parts on stage – the future of Chard panto!
