SCHOOL NEWS: Holyrood are on the ball as they win football cup
YOUNG footballers from Holyrood Academy in Chard have been declared the first-ever winners of the Vector Learning Trust Football Cup.
Matches were played on Wednesday, January 17, 2018, at the 3G pitch at Axe Valley Academy and boys and girls teams from Years 7-9 played their counterparts twice where they had the opportunity to earn overall points for their Academy (3 points for a win, 2 for a draw, 1 for a loss).
Some fantastic football was played throughout the competition and both staff and students had great fun.
After some close games Holyrood won seven and drew four of the 12 games that were played.
Special mention has to go to the Year 7 boys (won 2-0 and 2-1) and the Year 9 girls (won 2-0 and 3-0) who scored full points for Holyrood.
Axe Valley Academy finished on 18 points whilst Holyrood were named Vector Cup Champions after obtaining 30 points.
Miss Sims, sports coach at Holyrood Academy, said: "What a great opportunity for the Vector Learning Trust to showcase some of their sporting talent.
“It was good for the students to test themselves against each other; the games were played in great spirit and it was brilliant to see so many students playing football at once.
“We plan on having more events like this throughout the year in a range of different sports. The students love the team morale that it creates and it will be interesting to see who takes the Vector Cup in the next competition.”
