YOUTH RUGBY: Holyrood boys crowned champions of South Somerset

THE Holyrood Academy Year Seven boys’ rugby squad from Chard produced an outstanding performance on Tuesday (December 5, 2017) to beat Huish Episcopi Academy 25pts-15 and be crowned South Somerset champions.

An enthusiastic crowd of over 100 came to Chard RFC to watch the match under the floodlights and were treated to some outstanding rugby displayed by all the young lads.

Holyrood played an expansive and fast-paced game which the opposition struggled to live with. Harvi Gardiner was named man of the match for his hat-trick of tries and all-action performance. The other two tries were scored by the outstanding Will Lees.

Holyrood Academy’s head of rugby, Simon Jenkins, said: “This group has been a pleasure to coach since they arrived at Holyrood in September.

“They have continued to get better and better each week. Any one of the 18 players who featured on the night could have got man of the match, such was the completeness of their performance.

“This was a great advert for school sport and I am immensely proud of their achievement.”
