CHARD NEWS: Three people are lucky to be alive after “out of control car” ploughs into them

THREE people were taken to hospital on Tuesday (December 5, 2017) evening after being in a horrifying car crash in Chard town centre.

Two adults and a young child were in a parked car at the side of the road in High Street when a red-coloured vehicle smashed into them.

Details have yet to fully emerge, but it is understood that two males in the car which crashed into the parked vehicle ran off from the scene.

The casualties were taken to Musgrove Park Hospital in Taunton for x-rays.

One of the casualties was Ingrid Edginton, of the Floweringi flower shop in Boden Street, who was a front-seat passenger.

“We’re ok,” she said. “A red car came down High Street out of control and hit the side of the car I was in with the driver and her three-year-old son.

“It happened just after 6pm. We’ll be ok – but I think we were very lucky.”

The police have yet to comment on the situation, but it is understood that they have been looking for the pair who ran away from the scene.

“The police have descriptions of the two of them,” added Ingrid. “My friend was screaming that her son was trapped in the car and they just ran.”

Anyone who witnessed the crash can contact police on 101.
