YOUTH HOCKEY: Excellent win for Holyrood Under-13s
HOLYROOD Academy's Under-13 boys in Chard faced a strong Castle School side from Taunton in their first hockey game of the season.
The team consisted of some experienced Year Eight students and Year Seven students who had never played hockey before.
The boys were apprehensive as they watched Castle warm-up, but all nerves appeared to diminish as the whistle signalled the start of the game.
The Holyrood boys started incredibly well with captain Harvey Evans, Monty Willis and Alec Evans moving the ball around smartly to set up some scoring opportunities.
Harvey Evans made it 1-0 when he smashed the ball into the bottom right corner of the goal.
Defenders Oli Board and Callum Boyland continued to keep out the opposition and soon Evans scored again to make it 2-0 at half-time.
Some brilliant reactions from goalkeeper Joshua Truscott saw Castle become increasingly frustrated before an excellent bit of play set up Evans to score his hat-trick. Will Lees and Adam Ottley played brilliantly at the back to prevent Castle from scoring their set play before Sam Gregory finished off the match with a well-deserved goal.
Miss Sims, Holyrood Academy's sports coach, said: “What a brilliant start! They hadn't played as a team before so I wasn't sure what to expect but the Year Sevens fitted in perfectly.
“Harvey's hat-trick was brilliant and a big shout out has to go to Truscott who volunteered to go in goal last minute and did a fantastic job! Man of the match went to both Sam Gregory and Josh Truscott!”
