YOUTH HOCKEY: Holyrood hockey girls are district champions

THE Holyrood Academy Year Seven girls’ hockey team in Chard travelled to Huish Episcopi on Wednesday (October 18, 2017) for their second district tournament of the year.

The girls played five teams throughout the afternoon in some blustery, miserable conditions on a difficult surface.

The team, led by Lola Saxby, played absolutely brilliantly in all of their games; beating four out of five of their opponents.

They beat Huish Episcopi 5-0, Gryphon 4-0, Stanchester 2-0, King Arthurs 6-1 and drew 0-0 with Sexeys.

Many of the goals were scored by Darcie Potter who was excellently supported by Freya Hibbard and Daisy Russell.

Jess Rogers was brilliant in goal and was backed up perfectly by Sophie Finch, Rochelle Dela Rosa and Savannah Lamb in defence.

Saxby was named player of the tournament for outstanding performances in all five of the matches.

The afternoon resulted in Holyrood being named district champions; they will go on to represent the county in December at the County Finals at Millfield School.

Miss Sims, sports coach at Holyrood Academy, said: "What a great afternoon. Every single girl put 100% effort in and played fantastically. They never give up. They now can't wait for the County Finals in December!"
