CARNIVAL: Collection nears £4,500
THE Chard Carnival Committee has announced that the collection taken at the procession earlier this month amounted to just under £4,500 – more than £300 up on the 2016 total.
The committee made the announcement on Sunday (October 22, 2017) afternoon – more than a week after the Carnival on Saturday, October 14, 2017.
The collection was counted a week on after the procession which had been overshadowed by a terrible accident which left a female member of the Eclipse Carnival Club road crew with serious injuries after getting trapped underneath the club’s float.
But a committee spokesman said: “We are very happy to announce that this year’s collection has been counted and it’s a whopping £4,492.91.
“This is over £300 more than last year - thanks to everyone who donated and for their ongoing support.”
The committee has also announced that the winner of a Golden Henry vacuum cleaner – donated by Chard-based Numatic International – was the person who bought the Carnival Programme number 66.
