YOUTH HOCKEY: Holyrood girls start league well with Amy hitting four

THE Year Eight hockey girls from Holyrood Academy in Chard travelled to Huish Episcopi for their first league match of the season.

The girls were apprehensive as they knew the 3G surface was going to be different to what they were used to.

But Holyrood started the match on Tuesday (October 17, 2017) brilliantly with Amy Bristow hitting the back of the net five minutes into the first-half.

This opening goal gave the girls the momentum they needed. Some excellent work between Crocus Douglass, Heidi Warren and Bristow saw the away side score three more goals in the space of ten minutes.

At half-time there was little to discuss after such a fantastic start.

Huish fought back in the second-half but were unable to make it through Holyrood's defence. The second innings saw plenty of opportunities go awry and at the final whistle the game finished at 4-0. Miss Sims, Holyrood Academy's sports coach, said: "What a great start to the league. The girls’ hard work during training and friendly matches has clearly paid off.

“Hopefully we can carry this momentum on to the next match on Thursday against Sexeys. Two girls were named players of the match, one was Amy Bristow who scored all four of the goals and Heidi Warren who was dominating the pitch.”
