YOUTH HOCKEY: Holyrood’s Year Eight girls get off to a winning start

THE Year Eight girls from Holyrood Academy travelled to Yeovil on Tuesday (September 19, 2017) for their first hockey match of the season.

The girls were looking for a strong start at the Yeovil Recreation Ground where they came up against a team from The Park School – in a bid to ensure they hit the ground running for the up-and-coming league fixtures.

The first half was a success for Holyrood as Crocus Douglass and Heidi Warren both found the back of the net off the back of some excellent work down the wings by Lily Farmer and Amy Bristow.

After two substitutions and a brief chat at half-time the girls had a steady start to the second-half.

A few chances went begging and The Park looked to come back strongly but failed to get past Hattie Withers in defence.

Captain Warren supported Douglass brilliantly up front which led to Douglass bagging her second goal of the game to guide Chard to victory.

Miss Sims, sports coach at Holyrood Academy, said: “What a brilliant team effort to begin the season. Lots to work on but extremely pleased with how the girls attacked relentlessly.”

Hattie Withers who played fantastically at the back was named player of the match.
