RUGBY: Ouch! There’s no such thing as a friendly!
RUGBY player Andrew McKerrow got more than he bargained for when he lined-up for the start of an Easter Saturday friendly match.
Andrew turned out for the Chard Veterans XV in their traditional Easter match with their Crewkerne counterparts at Chard’s Essex Close ground on Saturday (April 15, 2017).
But things took a painful turn for the worse for Andrew when he ended up with a nasty looking broken nose in an unfortunate clash of heads with one of his own team-mates.
Andrew was given some medical first-aid assistance on the sideline following the incident before being taken off to Musgrove Park Hospital in Taunton for further treatment.
His wife Kerry, speaking on social media, said: “So this isn’t quite what we had planned for this lovely long weekend. Thanks to Georgia King for getting him sorted on the sideline.”
People have been quick to pass on their best wishes to Andrew although some have – in true rugby spirit – added some humour to proceedings.
“What a lovely wonky nose,” wrote one person.
“What a gorgeous look,” added another.
While another person wrote: “No such thing as a friendly against Crewkerne.”
The Chard v Crewkerne match was an entertaining affair with the visitors running out 38pts-29 victors.
Everyone at Chard RFC and Crewkerne RFC will wish Andrew a speedy recovery and – as the photo shows – he is still smiling!
